Christmas is already less than two months away but a recent survey shows that 40% of Americans have anticipated the shopping spree by starting their gifts early. That's not so surprising when you take into account that end-of-year marketing starts in September in shops.
There are several reasons which can explain this phenomenon, the very busy shops when you get closer to the end of December, the relative scarcity of best seller products that everyone wants, the increased prices that some shops may apply for the holiday season.
Another interesting factor is the fact that the younger share of consumers (between 25 and 34) have different spending habits involving gifting co-workers and a relative larger number of friends in addition to close family.
What are popular gifts? Gift cards come first, even before clothing, books and electronics.
Home decor is also popular, provided you get something that will be appreciated and not sit in a closet! Budget wise, it's over USD$1000 in total that will be spent in total!

I've already started looking for ideas but haven't bought anything just yet, hopefully I'll find some time for it in November. But Christmas is still far away I think, the only thing is that I'm very busy at work right now and times runs out fast.

Like every year I buy stuff at the last minute because I can't be bothered to do it otherwise, my agenda only goes until the end of the week! It's true getting last minute presents is tough but with gift cards you're safe. It's just that getting gift cards every year is a bit boring!
